Foreigners in general should not be able to own land outright. Plenty of countries have this law to protect their citizens, Thailand for example, foreigners are only allowed 50% and must have a Thai cosigner. Our land is being handed over to foreigners at an alarming rate, and our children will be the ones to pay the price. FFS there are whole counties owned by Indians right here in TX, this is bullshit.
Same here in parts of our city. They are buying every house in a new subdivision.
In Mexico you cannot own land if you are not a Mexican citizen.
I think that is only in a coastal corridor.
NOBODY, whether foreign national or citizen, should be allowed a monopoly on agricultural, mining, or energy land.
That includes Bill Gates.
Now do Israeli nationals.
No dual citizenship. No foreign land owners.
In Saskatchewan, Canada, foreigners were allowed to own up to 160 acres of land total (a quarter section of land). That's very small but big enough to let you have a house and enough land to sustain yourself. And that's fair. If you wanted to own more, you have to be living in the province which up until recently meant you had to be a Canadian citizen.
The Sask Party threw those rules out almost a decade ago. The one thing I absolutely do not like about their party was that. Since then they've got foreign investor companies running around buying land up from retiring farmers who simply can't pass on their farms since it's too expensive to farm now.
I don’t think you need 160 acres to sustain your family.
If you're selling grain or raising a few head of cattle, then yeah. At least that was what the idea was when they put it into law back then.
I absolutely agree. Anyone buying up prime farm land should have to explain how it will be used, i.e. Bill Gates. For all we know he could destroy all of the purchased land with chemicals. Foreigners, non citizens, should not be permitted to purchase any real estate, lease only.
We should just squat on it and seize it ourselves
