What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
Yeah I agree, I've played bass for a long time but never a fretless. I'm kind of distracted with "learning the" aka "dicking around with" guitars atm....
Edit: I do think if I do get a fretless it would basically combine the two....
Edit 2: The problem is basically people report some issues with the Squiers and the Mexico Fenders...so you get to the American Fender now $1800, the Jaco is $2000 so why not as its upgrades make sense (there's also the Custom Jaco at $5000, I'm not that serious, plus if I pay $5k I don't want the bass to look trashed already - how they don't offer an UN-"relic-ed" version is beyond me). And anything else I've found is active pickups which I don't favor, never got into that whole thing...plus one battery craps out in there and you have a mess if not repairs....
I wish my fingers were a bit longer to more comfortably mess around with my bass. I got one for $40 at a yard sale a few years ago. I don't mess around with it too much.
Heck, just start messing with it, it will get easier*. Unless it's a true POS in which case get something decent first as it makes a big difference. "Decent" does not need to be expensive - Ibanez and Yamaha both make things that play well and sound good at beginner/student price points, for example (and like I say, often low end - har har - instruments are the only things with passive electronics anyway, if that matters to you).
*This is how it's going with guitar, at first I was like these tiny strings are fucking impossible and some idiot crammed them all too close together too

It's that one. I had it restringed and tuned up after I got it. You're right- I need to just mess around with it. I have a background in music, so that helps. I just need it to click for me. Once I get it figured out, I will be able to do enjoy it a lot more.
Yeah ok so that thing looks fine - basically a Jazz copy type instrument (so yank the frets and fill in with epoxy and you have Jaco, more or less, LOL).
The click will come as you play it for sure.
If you don't have a decent amp, get that too, as sounding good incentivizes practice - I got a little tube amp for guitar (Fender Blues Jr IV with Celestion Greenback option)(edit: my first tube amp) and it sounds so damn good it makes me want to fart around on it just to hear it.
