I think that's because you have it stuck in your head that God and the way he does things has to be a certain way. Jesus spoke in parables. That's, at the very least, to give himself deniability. He didn't always answer everyone directly. That's a mode of deception. Concealing is most definitely a form of deception. If you have a problem with that, perhaps you're the problem in the equation.
