It’s about sending a clear message that can’t be misunderstood.
The Ohio class carries 24 Trident II Ballistic Missiles. Each capable of being tipped with Nuclear payloads with the equivalent blast yields being anywhere from 5-475 Kilotons depending on the exact mounted warhead.
For a frame of reference the blast from the Atom Bomb dropped on Hiroshima was estimated at 15 Kilotons.
Whoever ordered the subs in wants to send a message to someone.
