I would think it is a wise take, others may think foolish but they are likely the fool for dismissing long term analytical thought that is rooted in historical patterns. There is always a culture war playing out, its overtness comes and goes but we have figured out a lot of how insidious it has/can become so I would expect you to not be far off and at the least we should diminish the use of "pede" to get ahead of an obvious potentiality that could come to pass as easily as it may not!
