...the SMO/RU-UA conflict has evolved/devolved into some bastard hybrid of modern mobile combined arms combat and trench warfare backed by massed artillery.
That's it, sorry Q guys. I just wanted to share my observation that a lot of the more genuine footage out of the SMO looks like a modern version of WW1 trench warfare.

Looks similar to what Napoleon's Grand Arme and the Wehrmacht and Finnish Army were experiencing; I take it this is "eastern european marshlands", or somesuch? And i take it much of rural eastern europe is forests, mountains and marshlands?
Sometimes less, sometimes more. Eastern Europe has better share of mountains (like carpathians or alps), in western part of Russia almost none. And lot of water sources in proximity. East or northward, land becomes less developed and more foresty.
