If I have the problem that people can impersonate me, then you have the problem of not knowing which is the real me.
It's very rare that a problem is only a problem for one person. Problems are generally too... problematic
That's not what their problem is. The $8 just gives you the ability to be verified, it doesn't automatically verify you. You still have to prove you are who you say you are.
Their problem is that they realize that a "blue check" isn't just a verification anymore. It's a sort of endorsement by Twitter. It gets people paying attention to what you have to say.
They are upset that now anybody can get this, by just paying $8 and verifying they are who they say they are. It no longer has special privileges for only the famous.
