I was one of the people who signed that, but it was hardly an "elite body"; many were dentists, medical doctors, and other professions, with pretty minimal scientific training.
It was mocked for that, but what do you see global warming doing in the news? Causing sudden death syndrome. Destroying your teeth. Causing dam collapse. Butterfly mass death. Global warming, quite literally, touches every aspect of life - because they want to control every aspect of life.
Everything.
So a medical doctor going "he died of a gun shot to the head by a guy on PCP, not because the guy got too much sun" or a dentist going "his enamel wore off because he drank 44 gallons of soda per day, not because he boiled his mouths protection away." Or a Home Depot purchasing agent going "our nails suck becuase they are made by China instead of Pittsburgh now and not becauseits hot enough outside to melt them." And so forth is actually right on target.
I agree that the more people who speak out against the "climate change" scam, the better. I was just disappointed that THAT particular effort was promoted as being pushed by "thousands of scientists", when a significant percentage weren't scientists.
I'm not saying there weren't legitimate scientists who signed it, but they made it too easy to sign on, which arguably decreased the effectiveness of it.

.....there were thousands of scientists, though.
