This is a good question. I'm quite sure that the GOP leadership would love to do that, and is almost certainly trying to make that happen.
In the case of JD Vance, I cannot comment, because I don't keep up with him.
But in the case of DeSantis, I think this is a real possibility. One thing I will point out about the DeSantis situation- Hurricane Ian. While most of the country doesn't think about that anymore, the fact is that storm is one of the most devastating natural disasters on record in the US, and it is, and will continue to be a big problem for Florida for many months to come.
It is conceivable, in my opinion, that DeSantis is kissing ass to the establishment only because the people of Florida need the financial aid from the establishment. He may be simply be playing along (temporarily) for federal dollars, because his people really, really need that money. Trump may know, and understand this play too, and is doing his part to help the game. It's just a theory though.
