Can’t remember which family member said this, but as a kid I heard it referred to as “an extra tax on the stupid”. Makes sense, throwing money away to MAYBE win a couple bucks on the occasional scratch-off. In Michigan they claim it goes to the schools…yeah right. In Detroit and even some suburbs, schools are rat infested hell holes with no supplies and HVAC systems from the Stone Age.
