Could you briefly explain why other parties are good for the system? It sounds like it might be reasonable, but I'm not sure how that works. Thanks!
Ideally there would be no parties, only individuals with competing ideas.

I see. Yes I totally agree, I just figured you were alluding to some point of logic in the election process whereby 3rd parties getting 0.01% of the vote somehow was beneficial for the integrity of the process.
Yea, it's certainly a shame that there are parties, but I think it's impossible not to. The top competing ideas will always rise to the top, distilling down to two. And of course their proponents will give them a name, thus creating parties. Individual politicians cling to parties because without them they're a tiny belligerent in a battle between two enemy armies.
I'll have to think on this more, but it seems the 2 party system is inevitable the way things are set up now.
