The Batman Animated Series from the 90s was very well made and the actors did excellent. Regardless of Hamil as a person, he as the Joker and Conroy as Batman were a good duo.
And as a matter of fact, I have seen the old movies and the 60s TV show. There was actually a cartoon movie in 2016 with Adam West before he died that was an homage to his show, as well.
And Conroy was a great Batman.
In fact it was largely agreed that the animated movie he starred in - 1993's Mask of the Phantasm - was largely superior and more mature compared to the live action movie (Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer) which came out two years later.
The animated show is actually responsible for Harley Quinn and the popular notion of Mr. Freeze's backstory. I would highly recommend checking out a couple of the episodes. It's a good series.
"Heart of Ice", "Almost Got 'im", the two-face episodes are good. "It's Never Too Late" is pretty great and a bit more personal - Batman calls a priest to try and reform a mob boss. The cartoon has a very noir style which was quite unique.
The animated Batman I saw was back in 1968. Olan Soule was the voice of Batman, and Casey Kasem was the voice of Robin.
