In the UK we have a right to own shotguns, but we need a shotgun certificate first which is issued by the Police.
They are supposed to allow you to have one unless they have a good reason for you not to (criminal background/mentally unstable etc.).
For firearms, we need to have a good reason to have them and then we apply for a firearms certificate. Each weapon takes up a 'slot' on the certificate, and a suppressor takes up a slot on its own for some reason.
Yes indeed on the UK the estimate on shotgun licence holders is about 1 million. With many also having a licence for rifles, fox, deer etc.
A good friend also owns and is licensed for an AR15 and various others.
It's a myth that there are no firearms in the UK, it's fairly easy to gain a shotgun certificate, whilst for a rifle you also need farm land identified to shoot on. Many of my friends have all or a mix, as do I.
