I can't speak to the 20 years ago stuff. But, with an unbiased eye I actually found the Ukraine stuff borderline sarcasm. As if he was saying , "Yeah, SUUURE these guys slayed 10k Russians with all their home alone BS". I could totally be wrong but kinda felt that might be the underlying message.
