The memelords strike and we laugh with glee as light is finally being shined upon the corrupt and the dark. But is it a laughing matter?
Do we still laugh at comedy? Dave Chapelle says what he says and it's "funny". But its silence that he created by his words and is what people will remember. Its not funny anymore it draws the crowd quiet.
It is tragedy frens. We face great tragedy and there will be no comedian brave enough to stand on a stage and laugh and crack jokes at what's to come.
I used to love comedians. I enjoyed how they thoroughly created characters, and situations, to draw you in and laugh how they drew comparisons to real life. Steve Martin was a favorite. I also loved the amazing one-liner comics, like Steven Wright.
But then it changed. Comics began relying upon crude and vulgar language for laughs. Nothing funny, just standing on the stage and cursing. That's when I tuned out. Although he's been around for ages, I never liked George Carlin for this reason.
More recently, comics have focused upon politics for their material...specifically, ridiculing conservatives. I now despise comics...
I dunno. I feel the same way, but we still have guys akin to Norm MacDonald. You'll just never see them anywhere mainstream. I made the darkest jokes all the time, at work, and get people laughing. The truth will always get people laughing, especially if presented in an exaggerated way. Someone was talking about dressing up as Justin Trudeau for Halloween, at work. I offhandedly replied, "yeah, blackface and all." and got a good reaction of chuckles. People know... they're just not willing to say it.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
