That amazes me and it caused me to wonder if a person could just live for 3 days without using their glasses AT ALL, would they be able to see better after that?
Their vision would be better, but not all the way to 20/20. Eye exercises might help with farsightendness since they need more focusing power. A combination of stronger ciliary muscle and more flexible lens might do it.
I have about a -1.5 D prescription. Haven't had 20/20 since a kid or ever? But thankfully I avoided progressive myopia. My 10 year old glasses work fine. And I think I've gone 3 years without wearing them at all.
I have heard of that study too.

My vision has been getting better as I age. My glasses have been worse than nothing for years, and I've stopped wearing contacts.
If I'm really lucky, age will balance near-sightedness and I'll be all set!
I wonder if I can get the lens restriction off my driver's license...
Eye exercises? Lol. That sounds funny / cute. Can you suggest some? Are you an optometrist/optician/ophthalmologist?
