Trump announced his candidacy after the results of the mid-terms were essentially in.
And what did he accomplish by doing this?
He denied the shitlibs, leftists, democrats, and never-Trumpers any ability to say that the mid-terms were in any way a referendum on Trump.
That is why the anti-Trumpers are so angry right now.

Yes, there was no name calling or bitter rehashing of the election fraud, so they can't use the usual methods to put him down. Although it was funny when he said something about the 2020 election as being odd (I can't remember the statement)
