Obama is lazy. All of these communist elites are lazy people. I'll bet a majority of the stories about his "community organizer" days are absolute bullshit ... I'll bet the only days he showed up for work at one are the days cameras were going to be around to hype him up.
Obama was nowhere near as popular as the media made him out to be. If the Ds knew Obama could spearhead an offense against Trump, it'd be front and center on TV. They don't do that though. Obama slithers out of the ground once or twice a year it seems. If what he did worked, the Ds would make sure that would happen a lot more.
One other thing to keep in mind about Obama ... he can only read from a script ... I am pretty sure you've seen how he will mumble and say "uh" when speaking extemporaneously or when he gets a question he doesn't expect (a rarity). It's pretty hard to get people as fired up as Trump gets them always reading from a script ... not saying that it can't work for a period of time, but it gets boring after a while.
