If it was such an important cog on the disinformation wheel, why would the Deep State risk selling it? They said it was a powerful tool in elections, too. How and why did this go down? Would the Deep State risk letting truth shine in any corner?

Because they had to. By law it is the Board's fiduciary responsibility to it's shareholders to provide the best return on their investment. When Musk offered to purchase the company for more money than it was worth, the Board was trapped.
If they refused the offer, they could be sued by the members for massive damages.

I would add that since it was a publicly traded company a hostile takeover would have been the other route. Elon would have bought enough shares to take control one way or another. NCSWIC
Exactly. They had no choice but to present the offer, it was to much money offered to turn down without a suit from the shareholders who want a profit.
the cabal or anyone really is well capable of a monkey wrench to prevent deal from going through. they could have hung it up in courts for stupid reasons ro any number of things so this theory is weak IMHO
But since when do they follow laws, or fiduciary responsibility? Elon was allowed to purchase Twitter. They didn’t out bid him, they didn’t block the sale, and they provided financing to him.
