And yes, they are actively trying to shut them down. There is literally a bill that seeks to end end-to-end encryption under the guise of "saving the kids." It is called the EARN IT act and it would give power to 3 letter agencies to end end-to-end encryption.
Mind you, even if you trust the government 100%, end-to-end encryption is still vital against rogue employees of companies and hackers.
They will own the private keys. This is effectively no difference. You are already using encryption sending the messages when browsing Tw@ter over https. Any messages sent are stored on their servers. They own the data and the private keypair used to encrypt the messages. This is 100% a false sense of security, smoke and mirrors. Fuck Elon fuck Tw@ter fuck WEF. Get ready people, this motherfucker is about to kick off hard. Stay up pray up load up.
There are ways for them to do this securely, and nothing Musk has said has implied they won't.
However, if it is not open-source, we will always have to just take their word for it. Not only that they aren't being malicious, but also that they don't have accidental vulnerabilities.
Facebook has a end-to-end encrypted messages feature and, if you trust that they did what they say they do, it is secure. Like I said, though, since it's not open-source, you never know if you can trust them. But they did work with the Signal foundation to develop it, so that's at least a plus.
And, another plus, is that you can use it to send things that Facebook Messenger normally blocks. For example, the link to patriots.win. You can't send that on regular Messenger, but if you switch to their encrypted messenger, you can. This is because encrypted messages can't be moderated like this, because Facebook has no idea what is in it. Obviously, they could just remove the blocks in order to perpetuate the illusion.
Nope. Law in virginia goes into affect july that allows police to use public social media pictures to facial identify you as long as they post this on their website every april.

If we were to back the blue then we would have to expect that they are better trained in deescalation which includes communication. I can understand in a tense situation this can be lacking. They have to be able to identify intoxicated people and mentally ill people and how to interact with them. I have talked with psychologists and they agree police do not know these things. Typically police will act and deal with violating civil rights later. They also use their go to tool of authoritative commands which can get people on obstruction of justice and worse charges. There are some who know their rights and the law, some who have had interactions with police and have had to learn the law, and those that have no interactions and dont fully understand the law. I think a majority fall in the last category. Then state legislators pass stupid bills that punish people for not knowing the law. If severity of a crime is to be a deterrent it needs to be easier to see and not something that you find out after the fact or seek out. (Maybe a class in high school, or community center in your local town, or by the police) We all know murder gets you the death sentence or life. local and national news post crimes everyday but they could easily help reduce it by saying after the report on our website you can learn how to interact with police. Hell even to make police work easier police forces could promote this idea just so they could reduce violent interactions. Instead they have ten cops show up to one scene so they can all write reports about this and that or restraints they were able to train on in that situation so they can report they are using state and federal funds when 7 of those cops could have been patrolling neighborhoods to deter criminals who might otherwise think they may get caught.
I agree. Its one thing to hear this once and then pigeon hole it and forget and another story if you have role played it multiple times so you are able to use it in an interaction that may never happen. Even companies practice fire drills, active shooter drills, and CPR training. Not like you will ever need it but they do happen more than once. If your not practicing this it isnt gonna be at the forefront when needed.
no such thing as "secure" messages; if there were, the 3 letter agencies would shut it down.

Easier to let them say they are secure, and just have backdoors all over the place
**He also wants to launch voice and video calls without requiring phone numbers ** Wish we didn't need to use a phone number to setup our accounts...

Should also include that law enforcement can not use biometrics on public platform to identify people.
Do you really think the standing army the Founders warned us about care about silly "laws" preventing them from doing something to us?
