Notice the theme? Kin against kin. You could even stretch this out a bit to cover Moses and Aaron (mentioned in this thread already). What kind of astonishingly stupid culture keeps pulling itself down by killing off the better bits of it, out of jealousy and spite? It's dumb but I'd be okay with it if they kept their illness to themselves. But no - for a man or a culture that is willing to cheat and kill his own brother, what morality would block them from dragging everyone else into it? Is it any wonder that they think of outsiders as little better than cattle?
