He is a Russian volunteer. He may have done his army duty before 1992, when his military symbols were correct. He looks old enough for that. As some have pointed out, some of the units still use those symbols, anyway. It is not suspicious.
Anyway, the point is the misbehaviour of evil forces, not the man's insignia.
Old enough or not, people regard the Soviet symbols as a symbol of stability and culture, in opposition to the instability and lack of culture that tore Russia apart in the 90’s when western architects of chaos moved in. In the Donbass where people have been looking down the barrel of western weapons for 8 years it’s particularly tough to argue.
In many ways the people with Soviet symbols and the people with Tsarist symbols are on the same side of the table …that should be a hint of what people’s intent wearing Soviet symbols.
