There was a brief furor in the little town I'm in back in the spring. Photos started being shared on Fbook of an elderly woman standing vigil at the hospital window of her dying husband. She had placed a stool on the ground outside his window (still in cold spring weather) in order to reach the window and remained there for days (I assume intermittently) watching in vain as her husband faded away. A security guard was filmed telling her she couldn't be there, but she persisted, with the support of family and friends. At one point, a nurse entered her husband's room not knowing she was at the window. Upon realizing she was being watched, she quickly put her face mask on and carried on. The explanation for her not being allowed in the room was that there was an "elevated # of cases" in the hospital and it was too dangerous. The maskless nurse showed just how contrived this situation was.
The photos of her were beautiful and disturbing all at once. Nothing ever came of it despite notifying the national media and multiple complaints to hospital management.
