Theory: FTX had so much money they can cover all the bets
Fact: FTX had a stupidly large amount of money from everywhere, US-G w/ Ukraine funds, actual intentional investors, and stolen coins from absorbed exchanges
Rational 1 - They paid towards candidates that are AF/MAGA as to attempt to have some sway over them even if they are known AF/MAGA.
Rational 2 - They paid specific people in the staff of those candidates to be insider agents.
Rational 3 - They wanted to muddy the waters for people watching AF/MAGA candidates
While R1/R2 seem the most likely using an Occam's razor approach, the reality is FTX had so much money they could have been pushing all three points as a win-win-win.
From the direction of the candidates:
1 - They knew - don't care
2 - They knew and are compromised
3 - They don't know anything about those funds (likely due to a inside staffer thing, or just layers of funding being so over the top at times)
I mean there are other possible variables here but the overall framing of the inconsistency seems solid enough.
Certainly a way to know who at least cares about the appearance of impropriety will return the funds, or the very least apologize for taking them if they actually used their funds completely throughout the election.
Problem is they could be lying in multiple directions. Only time will tell based on what bills that support or push back on, and how they behave while on committee (that is publicly facing).
If I missed some logic there please fill in the blanks.
Time for some theory crafting
