Loudon County is a very liberal suburb of DC. It is where the fireworks started that ultimately led to Younkin's election focused on parental involvement in education. This really moves us beyond "school choice" and leads to "parental choice"
Loudoun votes to alert parents to sexually explicit material in schools
Loudoun County Public Schools adopted a policy on Tuesday that will keep parents in the loop when it comes to sexually explicit material being taught in classrooms. Loudoun became the first school system in Northern Virginia to do so.
The policy calls for parents to be notified 30 days before such material is presented or assigned by a teacher, giving parents the ability to opt out of the material if they want.
It passed on a vote of 7-2 during a meeting held by the Loudoun County School Board.
The policy relates to classroom instructional material only, and not to books that students can access independently in school libraries.
Under a new Virginia law, all school systems across the state are supposed to pass similar policies that alert parents to sexually explicit material, although it is unclear how many of the school systems are on the verge of actually doing so.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed the law in April, holding it up as part of an effort to fulfill a campaign pledge to empower parents’ involvement in their children’s education.
Each school board must adopt a policy by Jan. 1, 2023, according to the law.
Democratic state lawmakers who objected argued that it constituted censorship and that valuable pieces of literature would be targeted.
Supporters emphasized that no books were being banned or censored and that the law simply allows parents to be notified of explicit material.
The measure cleared the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats, Senate after two moderate Democrats joined with Republicans to advance it.
It passed the GOP-controlled House on a party-line vote.
Under Virginia law, sexually explicit content is defined as “any description of or any picture, photograph, drawing, motion picture film, digital image or similar visual representation depicting sexual bestiality, a lewd exhibition of nudity, sexual excitement, sexual conduct or sadomasochistic abuse.”
I am SO SICK of hearing the “parents can opt out” BS!!! Have these people never been around kids?? If ANY are infected with this evil, they ALL infect the rest! What gets talked about (and experimented with) when the students are at lunch, recess, on the bus, or hanging out after school? The students who were “informed” practically consider it their DUTY to make sure the (usually tiny handful of) “poor opted-out” kids are brought up to speed. If it’s evil (and it IS) to expose kids to this stuff at all, they must ALL be protected from it. These kids are being defiled, with lifelong consequences, before they have any hope of guarding themselves from the effects.
I agree, but this is a start.
I do agree that it’s better than the alternative (no opt out); it’s just not nearly far enough. Ultimately, the only meaningful “opt out” is to keep your kids out altogether.
yeah, don't get me wrong, the idea that kids are being exposed to this stuff at all in school makes me sick. but every step we take, no matter how small, toward getting this perverted garbage out of schools is a win IMO.
The demon-craps used the word "censorship" in their arguments. The word "hypocrisy" comes to mind.
The ONLY way to opt out of indoctrination is home schooling
Nothing has changed about the porn in school libraries.
Just moved out of loudoun 6 months ago to Florida to settle down and have kids. Even though loudoun is blue, those fucking rednecks (I was one of them) that have been there before it got developed are loud enough to drown out any amount of pussy libs that have moved there. Now that they are awake, it will only spread throughout northern va… could see a red nova in 5 years which is insane to think
not happening here in Prince William - no longer a light red to purple county. This is very strong blue and the Supervisors are massively intent on blue oriented growth and raising taxes and introducing all the racial divisivness.
I have several friends in Loudoun County. I would say it’s not that liberal of an area.
Just moved out of there. Depends where you are. West loudoun is more rural, but tons of libs have kept moving west from the shithole fairfax/dc areas
like, turn off the Netflitz and get involved !
