Releasing information inconvenient for the establishment on a Friday night is a well-known way to kill a story's exposure.

We got a small victory, but the information we needed to get out there was intentionally released in the least damaging way possible.

I still don't trust Elon Musk.

No, the LEAST damaging way to handle the information would have been to delete it and never speak of it instead of presenting it to the world after ginning up lots of interest with an announcement the previous day.
