As of the late, I've been following and binge watching a couple of quite-insightful pop-culture commentators who are married and are former Disney employees with connections to get some inside information about the various rumblings about pop-culture and the company.
Their take on Disney:
The company's in DEEP trouble. They believe that Chapek was fired in a "coup" against him when the other members of the Senior Leadership, especially their Chief Accountant, went directly to the Board and show them that Chapek's cooking the books and Disney is doing far worse than what was believed. This provided enough information for the Board to quickly fire Chapek and bring back Iger to try to right the ship, with possible plans to SELL Disney to Apple.
...Of course, the problem is that much of the current problems Disney is facing is BECAUSE of Iger policies and Chapek was probably the scapegoat for the consequences of Iger's policies when they finally erupted to the surface.
...there is too much of this duplicitous dealings going on now....
Agreed. The commentators note that these shady dealings are not exactly new. They existed since Iger's time years ago.
The thing is that the consequences are starting to finally erupt and the chickens are coming home to roost. There are multiple problems for Disney, from critically underperforming movies and services to angered fanbases to crooked accounting. Adding into the mix forecasted bad economic times and you have Disney in a tail-spin!
...the word "schadenfreude" comes to mind....
