Hey, I did say I didn't endorse the theory, just putting it out there in this conversation. The OP asked about causes of multiple volcanoes at this time, and this is just one of several possibilities. As to "never been observed in history"... well the Sumerians observed something very much like that and wrote about it. But I yield to your superior knowledge on these matters.
Yes, Zecharia Sitchin made such an argument based on ancient records. It is reasonable to think that something happened to prompt their record of it. But it is a long jump to conclude it was a planet with a 3600-year orbit, following a cometary orbit. It would be farther out than the Oort Cloud.
In any case, its gravitational effect on the Earth would be nil, if it is so far away it cannot be detected.
Some sources claim that it is as large as Saturn and that its orbit takes it between Mars and Jupiter's orbits. Again, not advocating the theory, just putting it out there. If it were that large, it might have some gravitational effects on earth.
You really need to do the math. If the orbit of such a planet went from 1 Astronomical Unit (AU) (Earth's orbit) to ~10 AU (Saturn's orbit), the orbital period would be on the order of 12 years...not 3,600 years---off by a factor of 300. If it were as large as Saturn at that distance, it would be observable with the naked eye. Neither Jupiter nor Saturn have perceptible gravitational effects on Earth.
"Some sources" are full of bullshit. You are better off getting a textbook on orbital mechanics and learning for yourself why it is bullshit.
