Have a look at the theory of OrcH-OR. This says that our memories and maybe our consciousness lives inside our microtubules in a hydrophobic pocket.

Its being researched for over 20 years now and defies nearly all arguments against it. Memories live in a coherent state in our microtubules and provide a gateway between us and the rest of the universe.

Had a look...I am not a science buff..but think as Tesla pointed out that unless emotional intelligence is used then these theories can go on and on...making absolutely no sense ...I am not quoting his words but his meaning.
