The premise of the experiment is flawed from the outset, you can't make other people happy....period. People themselves, choose to be happy or not. For example, a person can be a foul mood, but someone comes to the door, or their boss calls them, or there is a person that requires a warm response, lo and behold they are instantly nice and pleasant -- they chose to change their mood; pretty much everyone has done this in their lifetime. How many people do you know, have everything great in their life, kids, good job, money, friends, yet they are just angry or mean all the time -- then on the other side, you have someone who has had nothing but a life of misery and pain, but happiness shines from them like the rays of the sun. Two different lives, one vastly different from the other, but the responses to life is different.
it is your choice how to respond to events, it is your choice how to treat other people. To paraphrase "being around someone in a bad mood, is like being around someone with BO, it is not a pleasant experience, that person could change it, if they really wanted to"
So how respond is up to you, people don't "make" you to do things, they don't make you unhappy, you make you unhappy, disappointment != unhappiness, disappointment comes from higher than realistic expectations on your part. Read "Happiness is a serious problem" By Dennis Prager, yes I have grown a little annoyed at how he views some things lately, but that doesn't take away from how good this little book is for someone to read.
