Something to do with the old tech in the cameras. Tv just used to be like that.

Just seemed unusual even for back then. I was around when the first color boxes came out and you had to wait 10 minutes or so for the tubes to warm up before you had a decent picture, contort the antenna, and give it a good whack, lol.
