Wouldnt Russia check what this person has in the pants at the first opportunity?
Russia is not the type to play along with identifying games.
So why would Russia seem to agree this athlete is female?

To keep the dude and deal alive. He got his own cell anyway and private shower to ensure nothing happens. It didn’t matter if a womans prison or not if nobody else came into contct with him. Putin kept it under wraps to preserve his options. If the dude died, Putin would have no leverage.
