There are teachings in the Catholic church that can be shown were taught by the Apostles. A book called The Fathers of the Church 3rd Edition was used by many Evangelists in the 60's and 70's who were looking for the first scriptures. Many of them came to convert to Catholicism, watch the show on EWTN called The Journey Home. The Pope can only speak Ex Cathedera (ie. from Peters chair) on issues of Doctrine and its only been done 2 or 3 times. they just don't go Pontificating around. 😃
