You didn't pay attention. It is a fee-for-service contract and Musk is paid by his customers. Who is a big customer? The U.S. government in the form of DoD and NASA. (You missed this point.) They make contract payments for service tendered. Straight money. Just because the honest paycheck comes from the government, does not mean it is a "subsidy."
Otherwise you are claiming that anyone who sells anything to the government is ipso facto receiving a subsidy, which is perfectly absurd...and effectively destroys the meaning of subsidy, which is to receive payment for no goods or services provided.

You are so welcome. It is so necessary to correct misconceptions that have been proliferated among the public. Again, I'm not arguing for Musk's sainthood, but only to point out that at least Space X is earning an honest buck.
