Starting on Thursday, the bitter blast of cold air will surge south and east. That will send temperatures tumbling from the southern Plains to the Southeast and Midwest.
Morning low temperatures in the teens and single digits are likely as far south as Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee, according to the FOX Forecast Center, while temperatures will remain in the teens from central Texas to Georgia.
In fact, this may be the coldest air in at least five years in Mississippi.
And the cold air is expected to remain in these areas, with a high probability that below average temperatures will persist over much of the country's eastern half into next week.
Here in Atlanta area we might have one day a year where the high doesn't get above freezing. We've already had that one day earlier this year (late Oct if I remember correctly, which was unusually early). Now we're forecasted to have 3 in a row. And of course, when it does get cold here, it gets unbearably dry, so we don't even get any snow out of it.
