So, let's say you're accused of a murder you didn't commit. Are you going to clam up and not speak to the investigators? Or would you be vocal about your innocence?
I know that ideally it's supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. You'd basically be giving them the ammo they need to bully the shit out of you until you cave from the pressure and "admit" to it; the prosecutors give you a "deal" so you don't have to deal with all that pressure anymore. Or if you have the resources, hire a British agent to fight for you. Make no statements on your own.
Oh, if I were arrested for anything, guilty or not, I'd keep my mouth shut until my attorney showed up. But as soon as I had counsel by my side, I'd be more than willing to talk - if I was innocent. If I was guilty, then the lawyer speaks for me.
