He is quite right.

In the US the Patriot Act was introduced just like that. All they have to do is say "terror" then they can invoke the Patriot Act and your rights go out of the window. The SWAT team can collect you and throw you into jail without charge and without any chance of being released, ever. No trial, no lawyer, no "innocent until proven guilty" etc and all in the name of anti-terrorism.
