There have been articles out for at least twenty to thirty years claiming the earths magnetic poles flip suddenly. Some even gave 'proof' of it happening.

The most convincing thing I saw was the magnetic alignment of the lava rocks layed down over millions of years from volcanic activity.

Was that proof true? Hell I don't know, and I no longer trust the science.
