The magnetic poles are not stationary, they are known to move and have been known to do so for a very long time. There is even evidence for a theory that the poles swap polarity. I believe the estimate is around every 68,000 years or so, but who knows for sure. What happens when the poles shift is anyone's guess, but I imagine there will be significant turmoil. When is the next flipping of the poles going to happen? Who knows. Should we worry about it? Probably not. We have other issues that are more concrete and more pressing. Since we don't know when the poles will flip and we don't know what the impacts will be, it hardly seems to be something that we can prepare for, let alone worry about when we have other more immediate concerns that have need to be addressed with known consequences.
