In history there actually have been thousands of cures developed by various people and tribes. Most were of course herbal, but some are actually very complicated in their preparation and dosing. Big Pharma has been pouring through these traditional herbal cures since the very beginning of developed Western medicine. The big "advancement" was made in modern history when Big Pharma was not allowed to patent naturally occuring substances. The new laws made it such that they could only patent synthetic "man-made" drugs. This focused research on finding what active ingredients in traditional herbal medicines and medicinal compounds and "synthesizing" them into a patentable drug. A very classic and well documented case is Chloroquine. Chloroquine is the synthetic version of Quinine. Quinine was used for longer than recorder history in Central and South America to prevent and cure malaria. A spanish monk/missionary to the region brought this traditional cure to the entire world. Quinine is derived from the Cinchona Officianalis tree leaves and bark. This was the first anti-malarial ever discovered. This became common around the world and is the source of gin and tonic water (tonic water is made with quinine) when the British empire extended throughout Africa and India and was used as a preventative. Since no company could patent quinine, a pharma company synthesized the active ingredient that they found was killing the malarial parasites. This was patented as Quinine in the 1940's. There soon became obvious that the Chloroquine had terrible side effects and an overdose would kill the patient. The pharma company re-engineered to mitigate some of the side effects and created Hydroxychloroquine. This pattern has been repeated for numerous common drugs. Unfortunately, greed has no bounds and the Pharma companies have had to invent diseases to "find" cures for when they started running out of maladies to treat. In a natural progression, when inventing disease was not profitable enough, it became necessary for the creation of disease, in order to drum up new customers. I believe this is where dietary recommendations were warped, vaccines were "doctored" (forgive the pun), and all sorts of drugs were created to treat common illnesses which may have alleviated some symptoms, but caused many other problems, some of which take years to undo the damage caused. While the majority of medical professionals have been benign in their intent, they have been carefully brainwashed by their training. The medical school system, internship/residency programs have been carefully designed with a carrot and stick method to force conformity and instill aversion to alternative treatments that might actually be cures. The laws were even created to further the penalties for doctors and nurses to find their own treatments and cures. The persecution of doctors for finding cures is also well established. A great example is Dr. Burzynski and his trials and tribulations over curing cancer patients that were considered untreatable. He still has a practice in Houston Texas and is still curing "uncurable" cases. Research the lengths this man had to endure to even keep his freedom, let alone his practice.
