Their shields are being beaten down and are splintering as the onslaught rises.
The foreign mercenaries hired have already gathered up the loot and spoils of war and fled, leaving the flanks exposed.
There is confusion and lack of cohesion among the ranks as they look around for support only to find their leaders suddenly nowhere to be found on the battlefield.
The line is wavering and starting to break as many flee in terror.
Only the true believers remain, resigned to their fate.
