It just dawned on me that if the GOP had taken the House by 40+ seats then McCarthy wouldn't be threatened by such a small rebellion. The 5 or so holdouts wouldn't make a difference at all if McCarthy had done his job properly to begin with. If any Dems cross the line to vote for him then he's going to lose any mandate among the GOP. He'll be known as the Dems choice for the House. This just feels like it's working out exactly how it's supposed to.
