One logical explanation seems to be that because DJT is strongly supporting McCarthy, DEMS cannot endorse him and therefore he would never be able to get the required votes!
OR -
McCarthy is a sleeper. DJT wants Dems to support him to win the position of Speaker so that when he brings down the Hammer on Dems, it looks impartial!

Possible. Would guess there are 3 or 4 reasons, in reality. Optics, future plays off backroom deals (he tweeted about calls all night), etc

This was an interesting quote from DJT today:

But I believe Trump had no illusions about McConnell then. He did it for a reason which we will probably never know. That's why I'm not concerned about Trump endorsing McCarthy.
In a good sting if we knew what side they were on, so would the DS. McConnell sure did push through a lot of judges when it was necessary. They are all playing a part, and part of it is to so the public how utterly corrupt the uniparty is.
some of those judges were not so good, it turns out. also, Trump backed lady lyndsey and china mitch, who both turned their backs on the Donald and their republican voters.
Probably had to do with the judges.

Or, Trump is trying to make friends with McCarthy snd is willing to endorse him to keep Kevin & friends favor because trump thinks it’s inevitable Kevin will be in power, Or trump is afraid the Ds will get speakership because there are too many “never- MAGA” congresspersons.
What if this Rule was confirmed by McCarthy…should he get a chance to see how he does?
