They were lifting bodies, flat on top with a hemispherical underneath.

Thank you, Much appreciation! The craft I saw must have used the same concept of a “lifting body” even though it appeared to be just as round on top as the bottom was when viewed from the side. From the side it looked like a chicken egg. Small end forward I think.
