Well, it orbits the sun much like the Earth orbits it. It takes Earth 365.25 days to make the orbit. The comet's orbit is much longer ... It takes 50,000 years. Halley's Comet's orbit is 76 years ... They're as predictable as clockwork overall :-). I'm not being a condescending idiot BTW :-) ... These kinds of things are pretty easy to measure once you can plot the comet's path.
You can use similar physics to prove McCarthy is a swamp rat, but that's beyond the scope of this discussion 😁

How do we know it takes 50,000 though? Who saw it 50,000 years ago and took note? 🤔
We measure its speed, direction, and distance from the sun and determine that it's orbit would take 50000 years
There's some assumptions being made in your calculations. I dont buy it.
weve been tracking these comets for years, its not like we just found it and within a day or 2 came up with calculations
