The committees were going to find this shit out and expose it anyway, and once the smoke cleared on the concessions and House vote, it left Biden's "handlers" no choice except to reveal it themselves and get out ahead of it by doing so.
It looks better on Biden and they have at least SOME chance to spin it favorably for him by bringing it forward themselves as opposed to letting Republicans discover it. They don't want ANY MORE "REVELATIONS," that much is obvious.
Listening to Kash Patel's thoughts on it, there probably is a legal angle or strategy they are working by letting this cat out of the bag. Something to do with minimizing Huntie's involvement and crimes; and could end up in a scenario where Biden is seemingly "pushed" by DoJ to pardon his son. That will be the theater and puppet show part of it, that they are trying to make happen - so that Biden is somehow blameless or insulated from criminal wrongdoing, and Hunter takes an ever so light tumble for it.
