In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. — Psalm 18:6
On a recent drive, something caught my eye. I started to notice that there were a significant amount of billboards that had a similar message. They were not all the same, but they all said something like, “if you’ve been injured, call us! We will come to you.” These attorney advertisements were every few miles!
Many advertisements that we see are all based on one premise, when something bad happens, call us! There are plumbers, insurance agents, and roadside assistance programs. Everyone wants to be the first call that you make when something bad happens. They want you to believe they can help fix whatever the issue is.
Life is filled with events that can cause us stress, and the world would like for us to look in a million other directions for help. There are dozens of help programs for any sort of situation that you may find yourself in. But I think David gave us some great advice here in Psalm 18:6.
When David found himself in times of distress, his first call was to God! Sure, David didn’t specify the types of distress, but I think he did that on purpose. Because no matter the issue, God is there for us! But it’s not only significant that David called out to God, but also that God heard. It shows the compassion and care that God has for us!
When you are facing things in life, who are you calling? It doesn’t matter if you are dealing with material things or spiritual things in this life. God should be our first call! Call on Him in prayer and share what’s on your mind and heart. He cares for you and would love to hear from you and help you.

I thought of that first, but thought it might be irreverent...but maybe God has a good sense of humor...I guess it shows how effective movies are in brainwashing people to certain things...eh?
