I was going along with it until they "found documents in his garage". Something just seems really off about that.

It brings to mind the Clintons and the missing FBI files. The files were found in the White House "in a box, shoved back into a closet". It smells of upscale people pretending that they're just Regular Folks (hi Hillary!) and you know how it is right? You set something aside in a closet or your garage and then you can't find it when you need it. Totally relatable, they're real folks just like you and me!
