It certainly is 'coincidental', but I recall back in the 1960s and 70s everyone learned First Aid, which included CPR, the Heimlich manuever, how and when to apply tourniquets, methods for stopping bleeding, resetting dislocated joints, stabilizing fractures, etc.

What ever happened to this? Youth sports was the forefront of all of this.
