No it's American as it gets. Consumer philosophy. Madison Ave. Advertising. It's not healthy for families or individuals health, mental or otherwise. It is arguably good for a financial market and GDP among a handful of traditionally givens if building ones nation is a goal. Obviously a balance that manages the downsides as much as it benefits from the upsides would be the ideal. Unfortunately in America at least, conspicuous consumption is the name of the game.
